The Seventh Art, a Song to Cinema

Sami Frey, Anna Karina, and Claude Brasseur in Godard's BAND OF

Seven-thirty in the evening, and lights
fade away, while curtains open in front
of me from center
to the sides

I look straight, and I see
a blackened red space, and faces
unfamiliar each day

Colors of motions emanate
from my body, and brighten
their eyes

At that fresh moment, I see,
among all of them, there stay
the two pairs

That sparkle with uncertainty, and fear
with unspoken words only I
can read and reply to
at the same time

With my colors and lights,
I reach out to them, the two lovers
who are soon to be saved
by my time
