Musée des Beaux-Arts

The old man
lurks in the background
with his glowering, thirsty eyes,
staring at a picture of the son of God,
as if to want to say,
“I would crucify a thousand Christs
if it would still my suffering.”

Painting by Pieter Brueghel the Elder, “Landscape with the Fall of Icarus”
